MAIRE, BARBARA J., 85 of Sebring, FL died October 15, 2017 in Sarasota, FL. She was born in Chicago, IL, daughter of the late Eldee and Emilie Sayre. Barbara first came to Sebring as a teenager, visiting her grandmother, May Sayre. Many years later she would return to Sebring permanently with husband Tom. Barbara's involvement with the Sport Car Club of America (SCCA) eventually led to working with Sebring Raceway beginning in 1985. Over the next 31 years she served in a variety of positions, but Barbara is best remembered as the Manager of the Sebring International Raceway Advisory Committee (SIRAC), the volunteer organization for the 12 Hours. Barbara and Tom enjoyed promoting the 12 Hours of Sebring at many events. Barbara's enthusiastic and detail-oriented work ethic endeared her to everyone who worked with her. Barbara's love for animals and especially cats, led her to help the local Humane Society and many other animal rescue groups. Barbara will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Tom and a sister, Eldeen Joyce Cichanski; nieces and a nephew. A celebration of her life will be 10:00 am, Monday at the Hall of Fame at Sebring International Raceway with Fr. Jose Gonzalez. Please come prepared to share memories you have of Barbara.
