Bryan S. Belcher

Bryan S. Belcher of Sebring, Florida passed away March 4, 2024, at the age of 93 at
HCA Florida Highlands Hospital. He was born July 3, 1930, in Plant City, Florida, son of
Will Hill and Agnes Myrtle (Barber) Belcher.
Bryan graduated from Orlando High School in 1949 and then Florida Southern College
in 1953. He served in the Army for 2 years overseas in Germany. He married Joy
(Thurmond) Belcher, and they celebrated 51 years of marriage last November.
Bryan was an active member of South Orlando Kiwanis for more than 20 years holding
many positions and winning awards for civic actions. He had a knack for being in the
right place at the right time and he was frequently helping strangers with a tow, gas, a
little bit of cash or the use of his jumper cables. In addition, he, and several others,
rescued 2 men in a car fire, from an accident on I-4. The act of bravery earned him The
Carnegie Medal in recognition of an outstanding act of heroism and The Dr. P Phillips
Foundation award.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn and daughter, Vicki
Layton. Surviving in addition to his wife, Joy (Thurmond) Belcher are his daughter, Coni
Cook and her husband Jay, of Eustis, his son, Bryan H. Belcher and his wife Diane, of
Sebring and Shirley Willsey and her husband Alan, of Winter Springs; 9 grandchildren,
Matthew Cook, Casey Cook, Phillip Layton Jr., Robert Layton, Mason Belcher, Amy
Willsey, Hannah Cymny (her husband Patrick), Benjamin Willsey (his wife Mackenzie),
Jackson Belcher and 7 great grandchildren.
Bryan was quick with a joke and enjoyed hunting, cooking, tending his orange groves,
classical music and being with family. He will be deeply missed.
