Dr. James E. Smith died peacefully at home in his favorite chair on July 15, 2024. Dr. Smith was a lifelong educator whose career titles included teacher, coach, principal, curriculum Director at the innovative Nova Schools, Director of Career Education in Broward County and founding Director of the undergraduate college at Nova University in Fort Lauderdale.
Jim was born on July 29, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to Winifred King Smith and James E Smith,Sr. He was educated at Wabash College, Northwestern University and was invited to do Doctoral work at Stanford University.
After retirement he enjoyed tennis, golf and camping. He was also active in the Blue Streaks Booster Club, President of Sebring Meals on Wheels, President of local retired educators and assumed service roles in his church.
Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Natalie and 5 children -Brad Smith (Kim), Mark Smith,Lynn Burset, Terri Nickle and Michael Smith. He will be missed by grandchildren Ethan Smith,Abigail Smith Hernandez (Isaac), Noah Smith, Aiesha Leira (Clint), Jordain Burset (Adelis) andAdestin Grant.
