Frank Thomas, Age 70
Franklin Delano Thomas (Frank) died unexpectedly February 5, 2017, after suffering an aneurysm and stroke followed by a second stroke. He died peacefully at Florida Hospital Orlando with his brother, Tom Thomas, and sister-in-law, Judy Calt, by his side. Frank was born on November 16, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Phillip Thomas and Nadine (Ella Mae) Thomas. He grew up in Covington , Kentucky , where he and his brother entertained friends and neighbors by what could only be described as shenanigans. Their older sister, Carolyn, did what she could to keep them both in check, which was an impossible task. Frank served in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. Frank was proud of his U.S. Army service and often spoke fondly of his commander, John McNown , and his Army buddies, Jack Hosbach and Louis Rios. After serving in Vietnam , he made a home in Alaska with his brother, Tom, who had hitch-hiked there from Covington, Kentucky. They both earned a living by buying and selling and installing carpet and flooring products. This developed into owning some of the largest carpet and flooring stores in Anchorage and Chugiak, Alaska, including Colonel Abner's, Fast Freddy's Wholesale, Rug Bones and Chubby Chicken's Cheep Cheep Carpet. Three years ago, Frank decided to head for sunnier weather and, together with his niece, Melissa, purchased a home in Sebring, Florida. He resided there with his mother Ella, sister Carolyn, and niece Rebecca. Frank was a kind and selfless soul who always put others' needs ahead of his own and was loved and inspired by all who knew hi m. Frank is survived by his mother, Nadine (Ella Mae) Thomas, his sister, Carolyn Denton and brother-in-law Carl Denton, his brother Thomas E.
