LEAVENS, PHYLLIS, Phyllis Irene Chambers Leavens, 88, of Sebring, FL, passed away October 21, 2017. Phyllis was born on December 12, 1928 in South Bend, Indiana, to Kenneth Royer Chambers and Ruth Anna Swank Chambers. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Dwight E. Leavens; her parents, Kenneth and Ruth Chambers, sister Dorothy Chambers Detweiler (Gerald), brother-in-law Carl Young, and brother David R. Chambers (Cindy). She is survived by her three children, son Roger A. Leavens of Ft. Worth, TX, son Gary D. Leavens (Sandra) of Tate, GA, daughter Karen S. Leavens Mayer (Glenn) of Maylene, AL; granddaughters Caitlyn E. Mayer Seagraves (Seth), Alyssa B. Mayer, Lauren G. Mayer, Emma R. Mayer, and Tess E. Mayer; sisters Florence Chambers Young of Ponce de Leon, FL, and Esther S. Chambers Wolfe (Archie) of Sebring, FL, brother Donald E. Chambers (Darlene) of Davenport, FL; step-grandson Robert F. Willingham (Connie), step-granddaughter Cindy M. Willingham Baxter (Davy), step-great-granddaughters Katie L. Willingham Copeland (Luke) and Kimberly N. Willingham Wallach (Kevin); step-great-grandson Casey G. Willingham (Tiffani). Phyllis lived in Sebring and Winter Park, FL during her childhood, as well as Grand Rapids, MI and Froid, MT. She attended and graduated Manchester College in Manchester, IN, with a B.S. degree in Early Education, and taught and lived in Hobart, IN, until marrying. While at Manchester, she met and later married Dwight Leavens on December 27, 1953, in the first triple wedding ceremony of three sisters in the country, in Winter Park, FL. She returned to teaching after raising three children, and lived in various parts of north Florida, most notably the Jacksonville/Orange Park area and Panama City, before returning to live in Sebring for the past 23 years, where she was a member of the Sebring Church of the Brethren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 4:00 PM at the Sebring Church of the Brethren. Burial of ashes to take place at a later date in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Panama City, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Sebring Church of the Brethren, 700 S. Pine St., Sebring, FL 33870, in memory of Phyllis Leavens.
