Ronald “Rooter” Rush, August 3, 1955 – December 4, 2024 If you ever tuned into the airwaves of Highlands County or found yourself swaying on a disco dance floor, you likely already know this name. Ronald “Rooter” Rush was more than just a voice; he was a local legend whose infectious charisma left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Born to Leonard Rush and Neta Ridge, Rooter didn’t just grow up in Sebring— he thrived here. It was his larger than-life personality that truly made him a household name. Whether he was spinning records at the local disco, hosting events with his signature flair, or broadcasting across the radio, Rooter had one mission: to make life a little brighter for everyone around him. Rooter never met a stranger—he had a knack for turning casual conversations into lifelong connections. His warmth and humor inspired many, cementing his role as a pillar of the community. Highlands County didn’t just know Rooter; they loved him. But if you ask his family, they’ll tell you his proudest title wasn’t DJ or host. It was Dad. Rooter was, quite simply, the greatest father anyone could dream of. His daughter, Christina Rush, carries his legacy of boundless love and joy, while his former wife and forever friend, Suzi Lynes, remembers him with deep affection. His stepson Kent Hubbell, favorite daughter-in-law Jennifer Hubbell, and cherished grandchildren Blayden and Jhett Hubbell—meant the world to him. Rooter’s life was a masterclass in finding joy and spreading it like confetti. As we say goodbye, let us remember the sound of his laugh, the warmth of his hugs, and his uncanny ability to get anyone out on the dance floor. He leaves us not only with a lifetime of memories but also with the challenge to keep the party going—in his honor. Sebring may have lost its voice, but Rooter will live on in our hearts forever. So here’s to Ronald “Rooter” Rush: a man who didn’t just live life—he hosted it. A memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Church on Saturday, December 14th, 2024 from 11am-1pm. We invite you all to join us.
