Steve Milligan (age 83) met his Lord and Savior Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 9:00 pm in Sebring, Florida.
Steve was born May 24, 1938, to Roy and Ruth (Stephenson) Milligan, in Detroit, Michigan. He attended Ypsilanti High School and married Carol (Hanlon) Milligan, his wife of 65 years, in 1956.
Steve was a Lieutenant with the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department and worked part time as a Washtenaw Sheriff Deputy. Steve’s real passion was investing in the next generation, as he guided the youth in his role as youth leader at both Calvary and Trinity Baptist Church where he was introduced to Word of Life Bible Clubs. In 1972 he left the Fire Department to go full time with Word of Life, where he served the Chicago area for six years. Steve then joined the staff of Calvary Baptist in Quincy, Illinois as their youth pastor. Following that, he was hired to start the Quincy Park District Police, becoming their first Police Chief. He then accepted the role of Camp Director of Indiana Regular Baptist Camps where he also served on the state committee for laws for camps and served as Director of the State Chapter of Christian Camping International. Then God led Steve and Carol to Naples, Florida, where he became Operations Manager at First Baptist Church. While there Steve was elected as Commissioner of the North Naples Fire District. Always a steadfast worker, he spent his last years as Operations Manager at Maranatha Village, Sebring, Florida, where he retired at age 81.
Steve is survived by his wife, Carol Milligan; daughter, Cindy (John) Burrows; son Tom (Tish) Milligan; and daughter Malinda (Derek) Bishop; seven Grandchildren, and 11 Great Grandchildren.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, Glenn, Jim, and Ron.
Services will be held at Janowiak Funeral Home in Ypsilanti, MI. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 4 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm and the funeral service will be Saturday, Feb. 5 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Steve’s name to procure a new pick-up truck for Maranatha Village in Sebring, Florida.
